Imagine finding
out, after
twenty five
years of
marriage that
you have, in
fact, never been
married at all!
At the turn of
the century
three highly
respectable
Yorkshire
couples, pillars
of their local
society and
chapel are
celebrating
their triple
Silver Wedding
Anniversary with
a hearty
blow-out, a
quiet game of
cards, some
shared
reminiscences
and a good deal
of
self-congratulation
when a "shock
revelation" puts
paid to their
enjoyment and
threatens the
very foundations
of their
reputations and
marriages.
Their attempts
to come to grips
with their
unwelcome
situation are
disrupted by an
equally
unwelcome stream
of intruders - a
subversive
charwoman, a
charismatic
preacher, a
blundering
reporter, a
drunken
photographer and
a "lady" who is
certainly no
better than she
ought to be!
Throw in a
cheeky young
maid, a wayward
niece and a "lah-di-dah"
young Southerner
for good measure
and you can see
why their quiet
celebration
turns into every
host and
hostess'
nightmare.
