Little Theatre
costumes star on BBC 1.
Wardrobe
Mistress Maureen Duffy was so keen to show off some of the
treasures that are lurking in the wardrobe of the Little
Theatre that she decided to take a selection to the Sage
Gateshead where the BBC's Antiques Roadshow was being
filmed.
Despite
receiving a warm welcome she was asked to return a few weeks
later when the show was being filmed in Bridlington, when a
themed show of 'the age of elegance' was deemed a more
appropriate setting to discuss the costumes with an expert
on screen.
Maureen and
her assistant Marie Brown duly obliged and the experts were
thrilled with the selection of fine authentic dresses and
suits which ranged from the 1890's to 1950's.
Bridlington's
Spa Royal Hall had recently been restored and
similarities were drawn to the styling of the venue and some
of the elegant gowns which are authentic of the same era.
Despite having
a rough idea of their value Maureen and Marie couldn't resist
a 'really that much' moment characteristic of the Roadshow
when told some dresses were valued in the £400 - £600
bracket.
The Antiques
Roadshow is shown on BBC 1 and the BBC HD channel and is
watched by an average of 6.5 million viewers.
Maureen was
keen to point out that this diverse collection was safely
kept 'under lock and key'.
